can do this on up to 5 computers, which may belong to you or to others.
I am not certain whether I’m ready to purchase Confidant™ this point - is a trial version
available?
Absolutely. If you are not certain that Confidant™ meets your
needs, we encourage you to download our free

from every computer on which it had been loaded.
After we
receive your e-mail, we will promptly refund your entire purchase price.
Please note
that if you are not certain that
Confidant meets your needs, we encourage you to order a trial version of Confidant prior to purchasing

What kind of operating system does Confidant™ work
on?
Confidant works on a variety of Windows
operating systems:
Windows
98, XP,
Vista or 7
Does Confidant™ work on a
Mac?
No. At the current time, Confidant™ is not
Mac compatible. We plan to introduce a Mac-compatible version of Confidant in the future,
however.
Do I need any other software to run
Confidant™?
No. Confidant is a complete package, and
comes with all of the software files needed to run the program. However, if you wish to access the newly-added
Mental Health Practice Forms lbrary, you will need to have Microsft Word loaded on your
computer.
Will Confidant™ work on my
computer
network?
Yes. If you have your PCs networked and have a central server that you use to
store files and share them among multiple computers, you can configure Confidant to share the data among
multiple computers. (If you are unsure, please contact your IT professional for help in setting up this aspect
of the software.)
Prior to attempting this procedure, please be sure to backup your data
file.
The first step is to locate your current Confidant data file. (By
default, this file is stored in C:\Confidant_2\confidant_data.accdb.) You can move or copy this file out to
the share file area on your server. Then, open Confidant.
If you moved the file, you will be prompted to “Locate the Confidant
Data File.” You can browse the server and locate the file. Press the Open button when you have found the
file.
If you copied the file, then click the Settings tab in the Confidant
menu and click the “Select Database File” icon. You will be prompted for the location of the data file
as described above. Once you browse and select the data file, your Confidant software will point to the data
file on the server.
This procedure must be repeated for each PC that you would like to use
Confidant, sharing the same data. By default, each PC is setup to use the data file on their local hard drive
unless you choose a different location.
Please be sure to backup the file on the server on a regular
basis.
Can a single user who is using
Confidant™ on a single computer prepare separate bills for several
practitioners?
Yes. To do so, open Confidant, click
on the Settings tab in the Confidant menu and then click the “Select Database File”
icon. Once you browse and find your data file, (by default, this file is stored
in C:\Confidant_2\confidant_data.accdb), you can copy and paste that file multiple times -- once for each
practitioner.
You can then right click on each file and rename it (eg, one file can be
named Confidant_2\Confidant_data-DrJones, another one Confidant_2\Confidant_data-DrSmith, with another Confidant_2\Confidant_data - DrWilson. At this point, the image on your computer
screen will look similar to the one below.
Once these steps are completed the user can log in with his or her
password and maintain a separate data file for each practitioner.

I have three office locations. Can all three locations be
printed on the Invoices that Confidant™ generates?
I
also have a separate address to which
I would like all of my
clients' payments to be sent -- can
this be done?
Confidant comes with a built-in invoice template. It allows you
to display a single office address or multiple office addresses on the invoice. In addition, the invoice
format allows you to specify a "Remit to" address.
Some clients
require a very detailed bill (including complete diagnosis information, tax ID and
license
information) for submission to
insurance while others prefer
a very simple bill with minimal
diagnosis information. Which
invoice format does
Confidant™use?
It's up to you. Confidant can accommodate both kinds of clients! You can decide which format is appropriate
on a client-by-client basis and supply a "concise" diagnosis for a specific patient. That abbreviated
diagnosis information will appear on the invoice for that client, while other clients can receive the more
detailed invoice that many insurance companies require.
Can I transfer my Confidant data from one
computer to another?
Absolutely. Confidant allows you to easily
export your data from one computer and import it into another. This will allow you, for example, to transfer your data from
your desktop to your laptop, and vice
versa, keeping your data current at all
locations. And, whenever you transfer data, you will be able to specify whether you wish to include all of your
Confidant data or just a portion
of it.
When exporting client and session data, you will be prompted to
specify which files to include based on when the records were last updated. For all other data, all the information
will be included. For each piece of data that is being exported, you will need to
provide a file location and name. It is recommended (although not required) that you use the file names suggested by the
system. By default,
Confidant recommends a file name based on the data being exported
and the current date. (For
example, when exporting client data on January 1, 2003, the system will suggest a file named
clients_update010103.txt.) This will make the files easier for you to
identify later for importing. To accept the default file name, simply press Enter> or click on the
Save button.
Importing data will allow you to apply the changes made to the records that have been previously
exported. If a record already
exists, all data will be overwritten with the updated data.
If the record does not exist, a new record, with the proper data will be
created. For each piece of data that is being
imported, you will need to supply the name of the exported file.
Other practice management software that I have seen just seems to be too complicated for my
needs. I have
to go through a number of steps and searches just to
enter
a simple session note!
Confidant prides itself on its
simplicity and ease of use. The main screen opens once you provide your logon ID and password and provides you
with a pull-down list of your current clients. With the click of your mouse you can open any client's record
and view, edit or enter session information, and so much more. When done, you can click on another button to
conveniently print a hard-copy for your files.
Confidant seems
to have exactly what I need. Why is it priced so much lower than some other
practice
management software
packages?
The answer to this question lies in Confidant’s origins.
Confidant began as a customized software solution for a clinical practice which was unable to find an
easy-to-use and cost-effective product to help it manage their private practice. So, instead of spending their
money on a product that did not truly meet their needs, they opted to have a system custom developed for their
practice.
The mandate given to the developers was a
simple one: create a system that does exactly what the practitioner needs - and does it in the most straightforward
way without undue complication or unnecessary “bells and whistles”. In compliance with this mandate, Confidant’s
software engineers carefully considered each feature of the program before it was included.
After using the system over time and seeing
how greatly it benefited their practice, they decided to share Confidant with the world!
